Costco was one of the first companies to raise their minimum wage to $15 (it is now $16), but the pay is only one of the benefits of working at the warehouse club.
Several Yearly Bonuses
Although this is a benefit that you only receive after working for the company for a few years, it is an excellent one. “We provide twice-yearly Extra Checks (bonuses) for long-tenured hourly employees,” according to Costco’s website.
Executive Membership Is Free
Employees at Costco receive free membership cards for themselves, as well as their friends and family.
“We get four free membership cards (including mine) with 2% cash back every year,” a Costco cashier wrote on Quora. “You can give these cards to any family member or friend of your choice.” In addition, if you work for Costco for more than [than] 25 years and retire, you will receive a lifetime membership card.”
First dibs on popular items
Employees get to try out new products before they hit the shelves, and they frequently scoop up hot-ticket items as soon as they become available.
“We’re frequently out of stock of something because we’ve bought them all,” an Ohio Costco employee told Fox Business.
First Look at Sale Items
Employees also have access to sales before customers.
“We see things go on clearance before you do, and if it’s a good deal, we’ll snag it,” the Ohio employee explained to Fox Business.
Thanksgiving Turkey for Free
Multiple employees confirmed on Reddit that every Thanksgiving, American Costco employees receive a voucher for a free turkey. Costco donates turkeys that employees do not choose to take home.
Employee Shopping Only Hours
Perhaps the most significant disadvantage of shopping at Costco is the extremely long checkout lines — but employees are exempt from these.
“You can shop after hours, and many employees do,” a Costco worker in Washington State told Mental Floss.
